Christian Summer Camp is a classic staple of the American Christian World. You vividly remember the days: Your parents send you off to what they think will be a safe quiet week of worship, but anyone who has actually been to Bible Camp knows quiet and calm are the last words you’d use to describe your experience.
We all remember the amazing life-changing moments of worship, coming to Christ, and building lifelong friendships with other believers, but we also remember the crazy shenanigans, the endless amounts of activities, and the sheer weirdness of those weeks.
Here are you REAL camp stories.
“The speaker was a really nice guy but absolutely clueless, he was in the middle of a homily and he wants us to become more reliant on God, so he instantly told said get on your knees and crawl to the altar yelling “daddy”. It was the most awkward experience ever and it took everything in to not bust out laughing, eventually my friends and I could not contain it and we were asked to leave.“
“The worship leader used his phone for sheet music and one day his phone was running low on charge. However, in the middle of a song his phone went dead and he had no idea what to do. He was looking for the charger only to find that some kid unplugged the worship leaders phone to charge his vape and got lectured up front of everyone afterwards.“
“At my camp there were two kinds of people, the Jesus kids who wanted to be there, and those who were there to have fun and go crazy. One night many of the kids went missing and the counselors had no idea where they went. They eventually went looking in the woods and tons of kids were caught having sex in the woods. Let’s just say the camp wide lecture the day after was incredibly awkward.“
“At preteen camp we played this game called monster ball, with these huge beach balls like double the height and 3x the width of a kid and you had to push the ball with your team to score in the other teams soccer ball. When I played I was like 12 years old and had my period at the time. Of course I used pads but I ended up losing my pad on the field and had no idea where it went, it was the most terrifying moment of my life but thank God nobody knew it was me.“
“At this one camp my small group was put into a dark room and the leaders were saying “who killed Jesus?” we thought this was a fun game so we were trying to come up with answers. After 20 minute they turned on the lights and we were surrounded by tons of mirrors and they said “that’s right you killed Jesus!” After many years and tons of therapy later I went to a different camp and told people this story and so many kids and I bonded over this exercise that was done at their respective camps. Eww.“
“I was at camp and the entire time the food was not very good. I was at a session and immediately felt my stomach turn, I ended up having the worst case of the shits in my life. The next day there was no way I could attend any session so instead I was left alone in my cabin (at 10 years old) with only a left behind book to read and the bathroom.“
“I was 15 years old and met this really cute guy. We had so much in common and it was the first time I really fell in love, after the cry night we snuck outside and I had my first kiss, little did I know that I would end up marrying him.“
Everyone’s experience is unique at Bible Camp, and that’s what we love about it the most.
Jacob has always been passionate about athletics. He enjoys anything active, outdoors, and with people. Jacob desires that every Christian stays true to their own individual gifts and talents rather than become the ideal person people may want us to be at times. He has been an avid leader in local youth groups, mentor to others, and even a Christian Missionary in Scotland.
