Usually when you see your sweet old church secretary or treasurer, you never think that she would be secretly committing a felony in the dusty church office, but that’s exactly what happened at a church in North Carolina.
According to the Davidson County Sheriffs Office, the North Carolina woman forged checks and stole over $150,000 from the church where she worked
Betty Fowler Collins of Thomasville was arrested and charged with embezzlement and forgery, stealing from Liberty Baptist Church.
While employed by the church as the secretary-treasurer, she reportedly forged bank checks from the church’s account and embezzled the money until August 2020, when she no longer worked in the church secretary position
The grift wasn’t a new idea for Collins, who is accused of starting her scam all the way back in January 2009, taking money in small amounts for over a decade.
Collins was arrested on May 18th and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24th. She was booked on a $25,000 bond.
